Blood type: A
Birth place: Tokyo, Japan
Date of death: April 12, 2020
Fujiwara was born in Tokyo but grew up mostly in Iwate Prefecture. During high school, he sang in a band he started with his friend Kotaro Furuichi—who'd later become guitarist for the rock band The Collectors.
Around 18, he moved back to Tokyo alone and enrolled at the Bungakuza acting school. Through the 1980s, he bounced between theater troupes and whatever work he could find to pay the bills. He got his first real break into voice acting when Ken Production picked him up in the early '90s. While his early anime roles included Yokoyama Mitsuteru Sangokushi, he's best known for voicing Hiroshi Nohara in Crayon Shin-chan—the role that made his career.
In 2006, Fujiwara left Ken Production to start his own agency, AIR AGENCY Co., Ltd, where he served as Representative Director. The company handled talent management but also branched into producing drama CDs and live events through its subsidiary Air Label. He even made his sound directorial debut on Kakkokawaii Sengen! in 2010.
From 2008 onward, Fujiwara taught regularly at the Japan Newart College. In August 2016, Air Agency announced he was taking a hiatus for medical treatment. He returned to work in June 2017, but passed away from cancer on April 12, 2020.
