Nagaoka Mikio comes from old money—literally. The Nagaoka family once held real power as samurai in the shogun's service, but like a lot of former samurai clans, they hit hard times after the Meiji era wiped out that whole system. As the family's heir, Mikio inherited prestige without the paycheck.
Instead of accepting a quiet decline, he and a crew of friends took matters into their own hands. They turned to petty burglary, treating it less like crime and more like a shortcut back to wealth and influence. It's the kind of move that defined a generation of displaced nobles—too proud to start from scratch, too desperate to stay poor.
