Death Note
Murder, theft, and violence plague the human world. Meanwhile, the realm of death gods is basically just a boring, endless gambling den. Light Yagami, a brilliant 17-year-old Japanese student, and Ryuk, a bored god of death, agree on one thing: both their worlds suck. Out of sheer boredom, Ryuk tosses his Death Note into the human world. Light finds it and sees the first rule: write someone's name in this notebook and they die. Sounds insane, but he's curious. He tests it out on a criminal, and it actually works. He's genuinely killed someone. Now that Light realizes what he's holding, he decides to use it. Taking on the alias Kira, he sets out to eliminate all the criminals and corrupt people he can reach—basically playing judge, jury, and executioner. But he's not alone. A legendary detective known only as L catches wind of Kira's murders and starts investigating. What unfolds is a twisted game of cat and mouse between two geniuses, each trying to outsmart the other. One of them won't survive it.
