Maes Hughes might come across as the comic relief, but he's actually a solid combatant when things get serious. He's Roy Mustang's best friend and genuinely devoted to helping Roy climb the ranks—willing to go to bat for him whenever needed. Off the job, he's a devoted family man. His wife Gracia means everything to him, and he's constantly pulling out photos of his daughter Elycia to show literally anyone who'll listen. He keeps her pictures stuffed in his uniform and finds every excuse to talk about how adorable she is.
Throughout the series, he works his way up from Major in the Investigation Division to Lieutenant Colonel.
