Once L died, he rejoined the team under Light's leadership. It wasn't until he learned the thirteen-day rule was a fabrication that Aizawa began to seriously suspect Light might actually be Kira. He reached out to Near and fed him information that ultimately pointed to Light as Kira's true identity—a move that got him briefly detained at Near's SPK headquarters before being released along with Mogi. By the end, Aizawa had taken over as the investigation team's leader.
