A nameless slave who appears early in Vinland Saga, rescued by Thors from the brink of death. He'd managed to escape from a Jomsviking group before Thors found him freezing and brought him to safety. Rather than return him, Thors negotiated the man's freedom by trading eight sheep—a choice that really drives home Thors' character, since most warriors of his era wouldn't have bothered. Unfortunately, the slave didn't survive long; exhaustion and exposure caught up with him shortly after. His brief arc is basically the story's clearest statement about Thors' principles: he genuinely values human life over violence and convention, even when it costs him. The slave's fate also sets a somber tone for what's to come.
