Ferio is a swordsman the Magic Knights encounter in the Forest of Silence—a gruff warrior who carries a blade nearly as tall as he is. He develops genuine feelings for Fuu pretty quickly, though his tendency to be evasive and dishonest made him hard for the group to trust at first.
Throughout the series, he uses a jeweled orb to stay connected with Fuu. In the anime, he gives her one while keeping an identical copy for himself; in the manga, it's a ring that matches the one he wears on his ear. She loses it when they return to Tokyo after the first season, but he gives her another when they come back.
During season one, Ferio's circumstances get complicated. He briefly pretends to side with Ascot (Lord Zagato's young summoner) and their monster Pajero, though this turns out to be a trick. More significantly, while the Knights are battling Inouva's true form, Ferio suddenly remembers his past—he's actually Princess Emeraude's younger brother. When his sister's voice reaches him through the orb, guiding him on how to defeat Inouva, he relays her instructions to the Knights and helps them win.
His character takes a darker turn in the OVA, where he's reimagined as an actual villain who can summon and control insects. Here he's close with Ascot and fights Fuu directly. Later in that continuity, he overhears Lantis talking strategy with the others and switches sides, eventually delivering Lantis' sword to help the combined Mashin fight Eagle.
The character's name comes from the Honda Civic Ferio, and Ascot's monster Pajero is named after the Mitsubishi vehicle.
