First appearance in manga: Chapter 134
Yoshikazu Suzuki, known simply as "Old Man," is a widower with a grandson who becomes surprisingly close to Kurono almost immediately—the two bond quickly despite their age difference. He's genuinely convinced that Kei represents humanity's best shot at survival, viewing him almost as a role model. This admiration runs deep enough that he sacrifices his own revival points to bring back Masaru Kato, hoping it'll let Kurono escape the game entirely.
Throughout the missions, Old Man repeatedly puts himself in harm's way to protect Kei, and he clearly tries to emulate him. But Kurono's death hits him hard, and he loses his sense of purpose. After that, he stops advocating for helping others and instead sides with the group consensus—it's just too risky. During the Italy mission, he's killed while shielding Inaba from a group of powerful new enemies. By that point, his earlier idealism has long faded.
