Background
Jin's a tragic figure through and through—born to Jun Kazama and Kazuya Mishima, he inherited way more than his father's spiky black hair and sharp features. While still in the womb, the Devil Gene lurking inside Kazuya tried to possess him, but Jun managed to protect her unborn son. She took Jin to the mountains and raised him there, training him in the Kazama family's martial arts.
When Jin was fifteen, Jun sensed something terrible coming. She finally told him about his real family and told him to seek out his grandfather Heihachi if anything happened to her. Days later, Ogre attacked and Jun vanished. Jin woke up among the wreckage, furious and determined to find his mother. Instead, Heihachi found him and took him under his wing, training him in Mishima-style karate.
Personality
What makes Jin interesting is that he's basically a good person trapped in an impossible situation. He's got the weight of one of gaming's most cursed bloodlines on his shoulders, and nearly every major tragedy in his life has been completely beyond his control—his parents are monsters, his mom was ripped away from him as a teenager, his grandfather betrayed him. The Devil Gene gnaws at him constantly, making him paranoid that anyone close to him will suffer if he loses control.
This paranoia is probably why he keeps people at arm's length, even friends like Hwoarang and Ling Xiaoyu who clearly care about him. He's not being cold for no reason; he genuinely thinks he's protecting them. That said, he'll absolutely help when people need it.
Jin's usually calm but has a dangerous intensity when focused on something. Once his mind locks onto a goal, basically nothing can distract him. The bitterness toward his grandfather and father runs deep—rightfully so. Back in Tekken 4, he actually planned to kill both Heihachi and Kazuya and then himself, hoping to end the Mishima curse for good. But when he finally had the chance, his mother's spirit (or memory, or something) stopped him.
In Tekken 6, he takes over the Zaibatsu and throws the world into war, but it's not pure evil—he's doing it to awaken Azazel, some ancient threat he thinks he can destroy to break the curse. The roads to hell and all that. Raven finds him half-buried in a desert afterward, still marked by the Devil Gene, and it's unclear if he's even alive.
Appearance
Jin's undeniably striking—he's got his father's build (lean and muscular from years of serious training) and his face is actually more like his mother's, despite the overwhelming resemblance to Kazuya overall. The most iconic thing about him is the black Devil mark branded on his arm, a permanent reminder of the curse running through his veins.
Tournament History
Tekken 3: After four years of training under Heihachi, the nineteen-year-old Jin entered the tournament determined to kill Ogre. He worked his way through the bracket and eventually faced Ogre at a temple, though Heihachi had secretly rigged the fight to draw Ogre out. Jin won, avenging his mother, but Heihachi immediately shot him—and Jin's Devil Gene awakened in response. He transformed, threw his grandfather through a wall, and flew off into the night.
Tekken 4: Jin spent years in hiding, training in a small Australian dojo to unlearn everything Mishima about himself. When the tournament was announced, he saw his chance to end his bloodline once and for all. He fought his way through the bracket, faced Kazuya, and then Heihachi—and nearly killed him. But a vision of his mother stopped him cold.
Tekken 5: Weakened and increasingly overwhelmed by the Devil Gene, Jin claimed the Mishima Zaibatsu after defeating his great-grandfather Jinpachi. The Gene was eating him alive.
Tekken 6: Now running the Zaibatsu, Jin orchestrated a global war using the Tekken Force, conquering resources and destabilizing nations. His goal wasn't conquest—it was creating enough negative energy to physically manifest Azazel, an ancient evil he believed he could destroy to free himself from the curse. He announced the tournament as bait for Kazuya's opposition force, the G Corporation. After being defeated by Lars, Jin revealed his whole plan, then apparently sacrificed himself destroying Azazel. Raven found him in the desert, still alive or dead, still marked by the Devil.
