Harada Sanosuke is the Shinsengumi's best spear fighter—basically unbeatable with one. He's mastered the Taneda Houzouin-ryuu technique, though his sword skills are admittedly weak. As one of the group's founding members, he's been around since before they even moved to the capital.
Beyond combat, Sanosuke's known for being a fun-loving goofball who eats like his life depends on it (preferably at someone else's expense). He's part of the "Comedian Three" alongside Toudou Heisuke and Nagakura Shinpachi, constantly mocking the chibi cast. Despite the crude, rough-around-the-edges act, he's genuinely kind-hearted—he can't stand watching people get bullied and will help out without hesitation. That said, he did stomp all over Tetsu in episode one, so his compassion has limits.
Food motivates him more than anything else, especially dishes cooked by Ayumi. During a marathon episode, he was dead last until he remembered the prize was one of Ayumi's massive meals. His speed shot up so dramatically he caught Yamanami and Shinpachi, who'd been leading the whole time. Hijikata knows better than to send him on errands—the guy's too unpredictable for that kind of responsibility.
