Lina's basically the reason Vash ends up getting a normal life for a while. She found him in rough shape one day on her way back from groceries and brought him home without hesitation. Her grandmother Sheryl took him in and nursed him back to health. Depending on which version you're reading or watching, Vash stayed with them for about two years—after the Fifth Moon Incident in the manga and first anime, or after Lost July in Stampede. Either way, it's one of the few stretches where he actually gets to rest.
