Her father ran a restaurant, and she grew up around that world. When she saw Youhei punch another beastfallen for skipping out on payment, she got the idea to use him as muscle—figured she could scare off the other ones causing trouble. But it came out pretty quickly after that her mother had actually been killed by a starving beastfallen. So her whole reason for trying to weaponize Youhei hit different once you knew that backstory.
