Yuri is a young girl who gets caught up in Light's schemes when he invites her to Space Land on a date. Light doesn't actually care about her—he's using the outing as cover while he's being tailed by Ray Penber, an FBI agent. Since Light knows he's under surveillance, dating Yuri is his way of looking normal and unsuspicious. The real goal is to figure out Penber's name so he can write it in the Death Note. It's a classic example of Light manipulating someone to serve his own purposes, though Yuri has no idea what's really going on.
