Kouryuu was once Ryuken's main rival in the fight to become the successor of Hokuto Shinken. He lost that battle for succession, which sent him into the mountains to live as an ascetic. Later, Raoh tracked him down and defeated him in combat, though he chose to let Kouryuu's two sons—Zeus and Aus—live.
