Synopsis

Tamako's basically a mochi expert—she knows everything about making the traditional Japanese sweets, and she's always coming up with new flavors for her family's shop, Tama-ya. High school is a different story though. She's figuring that out as she goes, with help from her best friends Kanna and Midori, whose families also run shops in the same shopping district. Things get messy fast, especially with her feelings toward Mochizou, her best friend who happens to work at a rival mochi shop across the way. And Midori's got her own complicated feelings brewing about Tamako. Then there's the weird talking bird that keeps showing up—seriously, it speaks perfect Japanese and nobody knows what it wants. It's a lot to deal with, but Tamako's learned that no matter how rough things get, there's always something sweet waiting for her at the end of the day. That's the beauty of life in Tamako Market.
