Kyon's just your average high school freshman who's moved past his middle school obsession with aliens, ESP users, and time travelers. Then he sits behind Haruhi Suzumiya, this brilliant and genuinely strange girl who literally announces during self-introductions that she's looking for exactly those things—aliens, time travelers, dimension hoppers, psychics, you name it. Intrigued, Kyon starts chatting with her, and before long they're actually having real conversations.
