Synopsis

The neutral space colony Heliopolis houses Morgenroete, a secret weapons facility that's been developing the battleship Archangel and five Gundam prototypes for the Earth Alliance. When ZAFT—an army of genetically-engineered Coordinators—attacks the colony, they manage to steal four of the five Gundams. Civilian Kira Yamato, a Coordinator who was actually raised by Natural parents, ends up in the cockpit of the remaining prototype, Strike Gundam, and starts piloting it for the Alliance to protect his Natural friends. The problem? His childhood best friend Athrun Zala is now a ZAFT ace pilot on the opposite side. As their rivalry escalates into actual combat, the two friends find themselves caught in a war that threatens the survival of the entire Coordinator race.
