SEED
Mu La Flaga earned his nickname "Hawk of Endymion" early in the war by taking down five ZAFT mobile suits single-handedly during one of the conflict's opening engagements. When his original unit got wiped out in the Heliopolis invasion, he ended up aboard the Archangel, where he served as lieutenant under Murrue Ramius—and eventually became romantically involved with her. He quickly befriended Kira Yamato too, offering encouragement when the younger pilot needed it most.
In the cockpit, Mu's a different person than he is around the ship. He flies the Moebius Zero with exceptional skill and thinks tactically, serving as the Archangel's primary defender and support fighter. He started out piloting the Skygrasper before eventually taking over the Strike Gundam, which Kira modified so a Natural could operate it. The contrast between his serious combat demeanor and his goofball personality topside makes him stand out—he's always cracking jokes to keep morale up, though his casual humor sometimes crosses lines (like the time he patted Murrue's back and got called out for sexual harassment).
Underneath the cheerfulness is complicated family baggage. His father Al Da Flaga preferred Mu's clone brother, the Newtype Rau Le Creuset, treating Mu like a disappointment his whole life. Mu feels nothing but contempt for his late father and shares an unsettling psychic connection with Rau that lets him sense when the man's nearby.
SEED Destiny
Mu reappears as Neo Lorrneke, a masked commander operating under Lord Jibril's direct orders. He captains the Girty Lue and oversees the Extendeds—Auel, Stellar, and Sting—sending them into combat on his superior's whims. Like Rau before him, Neo's true identity stays hidden until he's brought aboard the Archangel, where Murrue recognizes his face and physical structure.
Neo's ruthless in ways Mu never was. He manipulates Stellar with false promises to keep her docile, then orders her memories altered when she becomes troublesome. When Shinn Asuka asks him to guarantee Stellar won't fight again, Neo agrees, then immediately breaks his word. There's something deliberately cruel about how he operates—until his personality gradually starts shifting, becoming sarcastic and oddly reflective. He even starts quoting himself from before: "I can make the impossible possible."
In battle, Neo's a lethal pilot with the Exass in space and the Windam on Earth, relying on speed and tactical aggression. He struggles against Rey Za Burrel in particular, hinting at some unresolved connection between them that mirrors his past bond with Rau. By the end, it's unclear whether Neo's becoming more like Mu or if Mu was always this person underneath.
