Mazinger Z
One of the earliest super robot manga and basically the one that defined the whole genre. Mazinger Z is built from Super-Alloy Z by Professor Juzo Kabuto as a weapon against Dr. Hell's army of Mechanical Beasts. When the professor is killed, his grandson Koji takes over as the pilot and spends the series fighting Dr. Hell and whoever joins forces with him. The manga's big innovation was putting an actual pilot inside the mecha—something that became standard for basically every series that came after.
