Shiro is Kouji's younger brother, and the two are extremely close—Kouji is fiercely protective of him since they're essentially all the family each other has. After the defeat of Mazinger Z at the hands of Ankoku Daishogun, their father took Shiro in, though Kouji remains unaware of the full circumstances surrounding his brother's origins.
