Synopsis

Haruo "Beastly Fingers" Yaguchi is a legend in the arcade world—but in real life, he's just an ordinary sixth grader coasting through school. He's not popular, not particularly smart or athletic. Gaming is literally the only thing he's good at, and he's fine spending all his time at the arcade perfecting his craft instead of worrying about grades or a normal social life. That changes when he runs into Akira Oono, a fellow classmate who seems like his complete opposite. She's got perfect grades, everyone likes her, and she comes from money. But somehow, she's also an arcade regular, and way better at games than anyone should be—she racks up a 29-game win streak and beats Haruo seven times straight. Desperate to wipe that smug look off her face, Haruo challenges her to Street Fighter 2, plays dirty, and gets a hard slap for his trouble. It's the kind of awkward, antagonistic start that somehow kicks off an actual relationship between these two rival gamers.
