Mahiru Shirota's pretty ordinary life takes a wild turn when he rescues a stray black cat and names it Kuro. Except the cat isn't actually a cat—it transforms into a person. Turns out Kuro is a centuries-old vampire who's basically the definition of lazy and refuses to drink blood because, you know, effort. There's one thing Mahiru wasn't supposed to do: say Kuro's name out loud. Naturally, he does exactly that, which forms some kind of bond between them. Kuro could theoretically become his "servamp"—a servant vampire. Then Tsubaki, another vampire, attacks and forces Kuro to drink Mahiru's blood, officially sealing the master-servant contract. Now Mahiru's Kuro's "Eve," or master. Here's where things get complicated. Tsubaki reveals that Kuro's real name is Sleepy Ash, and he's the oldest of seven vampires, each one representing one of the deadly sins. Tsubaki himself is the forgotten eighth brother—he represents melancholy—and he's declared war on both vampires and humans alike. If Mahiru and Kuro want to stop the bloodshed, they need to track down the other servamps and their Eves before Tsubaki causes total chaos.
