Kara no Kyoukai: The Garden of Sinners
A teenage girl named Shiki Ryougi has the rare ability called the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception—basically, she can see the "death" of anything that exists and destroy it by targeting its source. She wakes up from a two-year coma following a car accident with a major problem: she can't sense her male personality anymore and assumes he's gone for good. See, kids born into the Ryougi family typically have two personalities. Shiki had a male personality (yang) and a female personality (yin), and you could always tell them apart by how they talked—the male one called himself ore, the female one watashi. But now the male personality is just. absent. On top of that, Shiki feels weirdly disconnected from everything before the accident. She knows she's Shiki, but it doesn't feel that way. To try and get herself back together and resurrect the lost personality, she adopts a cold demeanor similar to how the male Shiki acted and mimics the female Shiki's behavior. It's kind of a mix of both. Her mentor Touko gets that something's off, but she thinks what they're looking at is actually a completely new third personality rather than some combination of the old two. The series exists in the same world as the TYPE-MOON work Tsukihime. Touko Aozaki, who appears here, is the sister of a character from that series, and Shiki Ryougi shares the same supernatural eyes as Tsukihime's protagonist, Shiki Tohno.
