Type-Moon was founded by artist Takashi Takeuchi and writer Kinoko Nasu, who'd been schoolmates. They started out as a doujin circle in 2000 before officially becoming a commercial company on January 30, 2004. That same year they dropped Fate/stay night, the PC visual novel that would basically define their legacy. It's still the project fans associate most with the studio.
