Kousei Arima was a piano prodigy trained relentlessly by his mother to play with mechanical precision. He breezed through every competition and earned the nickname "Human Metronome" for his flawless performances. All the young musicians around him idolized him. Then his mother died suddenly, and everything fell apart. The shock left him unable to hear properly, and he vanished from the stage entirely. Two years pass. Kousei's now living a grey, everyday life with his childhood friends Tsubaki and Ryouta keeping him afloat. He still loves music, but actually performing is still off the table for him. That changes when he meets Kaori Miyazono, a violinist who plays however she wants—no sheet music dictating every note. Their encounter sets off a chain reaction. Through their friendship and the connections that follow, Kousei starts finding his way back to music. It's a story about how one person can bring color back into someone else's life, built on friendship, love, music, and one important lie that keeps it all together.
