Kouichi Haimawari grew up wanting to be a hero in a world full of them. But his Quirk—the ability to slide—is pretty unremarkable, and only licensed pros get to use their powers legally anyway. So he accepted his limits and found meaning in small acts of kindness instead: returning lost wallets, helping old people cross the street, that kind of thing. His quiet life changes when he gets pulled into a back-alley fight and rescued by Knuckleduster, an unlicensed vigilante operating outside the law. Knuckleduster sees something in Kouichi and recruits him to investigate Trigger, a dangerous drug that amps up people's Quirks but destroys their self-control in the process. Vigilante takes place before the original My Hero Academia story and follows Kouichi as he makes the choice to become a vigilante himself—operating in the shadows, bending the rules, and taking on the label of villain to stop criminals before they become too much for the system to handle.
