Synopsis

In a world where magic is governed by Marks—four symbols assigned at birth that determine a mage's magical abilities—a powerful sage grew frustrated with his own Mark, which suited him only for augmenting magic rather than combat. Desperate for a fresh start, he reincarnated himself thousands of years into the future. He's reborn as Mathias Hildesheimr, a six-year-old boy and third son to a noble duke. This time around, he gets exactly what he wanted: a combat-focused Mark. But there's a catch. In the centuries since his previous life, humanity's magical knowledge has collapsed. Spells have been lost, and magic equipment is practically nonexistent. Even worse, the very Mark he'd longed for—once considered the strongest—is now seen as worthless. At twelve years old, Mathias enrolls in the Second Royal Academy on the strength of his exceptional swordsmanship alone. He quickly becomes a problem for everyone's preconceptions, shaking things up both inside and outside the academy walls. But as he settles in, Mathias senses something darker lurking beneath the surface. With humanity at its weakest point in history, it falls to him to uncover and stop whatever evil is stirring in the shadows.
