Tada Banri's first day at a Tokyo law school doesn't go smoothly—he gets hopelessly lost after the opening ceremony while trying to find freshman orientation. Lucky for him, another confused freshman named Yanagisawa Mitsuo is wandering around in the same boat, and they immediately click. The two manage to stumble into orientation just in time, where they're greeted by an elegant woman carrying a bouquet of roses. She smacks Mitsuo across the face with the flowers, hands them over to him with a curt "Freshman, congratulations," and walks off. That's Kaga Kouko, Mitsuo's childhood friend—and his former fiancée, technically. As kids they'd made a promise to marry someday, which was apparently serious enough that adult Mitsuo decided to secretly enroll at this college just to get away from her. Turns out that wasn't far enough. Kouko took the entrance exam too and tracked him down at orientation.
