Naoko Takeuchi is a Tokyo-based manga artist best known for creating Sailor Moon, the series that made her a household name in both Japan and North America. Her work has become deeply embedded in anime and manga fandom, with Sailor Moon in particular achieving massive international success through reprints and localized releases.
Beyond manga, Takeuchi has written numerous songs for the Sailor Moon anime and live-action adaptations—mostly character-focused image songs, though she's also penned some theme tracks. She won the 2nd Nakayoshi Comic Prize for Newcomers in 1985 for "Yume ja Nai no Ne," followed by a Nakayoshi New Artist award for "Love Call" (debuting in the September 1986 Nakayoshi Deluxe issue). In 1993, she took home the 17th Kodansha Manga Award in the shoujo category for Sailor Moon.
Early in her career, she worked as an assistant to Waki Yamato on the classical manga adaptation Asaki Yumemishi: Genji Monogatari.
She's married to Yoshihiro Togashi, the creator of Hunter x Hunter and Yu Yu Hakusho.
