Gackt is a multi-talented performer best known for his work as a singer and songwriter, though he's equally comfortable acting, modeling, or diving into video game production. He plays guitar, violin, bass, drums, piano, and saxophone—basically whatever the project needs. His sound sits in the pop/rock wheelhouse, and he's fluent enough in Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese, English, and French to perform in all of them.
He got his start in the mid-90s as part of the gothic rock band Malice Mizer from 1995 to 1999, then pivoted to a solo career that's still going strong. That solo run has been prolific: he's acted in films like Moon Child and the samurai period piece FuurinKazan (playing Uesugi Kenshin), appeared in the theater production Nemuri Kyoshirou Buraihikae, and even had a role in the 2010 film Bunraku. He also fronted the band S.K.I.N. and later YELLOW FRIED CHICKENz. These days, he performs with GacktJob as his main stage band.
Beyond music and acting, Gackt lent his voice and name to create Gackpoid, a Vocaloid software synthesizer. He's also appeared in TV productions like Time Spiral, where he played Shuya Tatsumi.
