Suzumoto is a Japanese novelist best known for his scenario work on three major Key visual novels: Air, Clannad, and Planetarian: Chiisana Hoshi no Yume. He's been with Aquaplus since 2006.
Early Career
Right out of high school, Suzumoto made waves in the literary world. He won first prize in Shueisha's sixteenth Cobalt Novel Prize in 1991 with his entry Waga Seishun no Hokusei Kabe, and Shueisha published his novel Aitsu wa Dandelion the following year under their Cobalt Bunko label. A few years later, his fantasy novel Aoneko no Machi tied for second place in the tenth Japan Fantasy Novel Award in 1998.
Visual Novel Work
Suzumoto's shift into game writing came after Kanon's release in 1999—the visual novel had such an impact on him that he joined Visual Art's in February 2000. He started with Air's scenario and then worked as a scenario assistant on several other projects before diving into Clannad, which occupied much of his time between 2001 and its 2004 release. Planetarian followed that same year as his final Key contribution. During this stretch, he also assisted on multiple games from Giant Panda, Studio Mebius, and Words between 2000 and 2004.
He left Visual Art's in September 2005 and published a how-to guide on visual novel scenario writing in 2006. That September, he joined Aquaplus. His first light novel, Die Nachtjäger, came out under GA Bunko in December 2006.
