Born in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, Kazuyoshi Katayama got into the anime industry specifically to work as a mechanical designer—and he's made that his calling. He's become known for his mecha design work and direction on major projects like The Sky Crawlers and Ghost in the Shell. He even contributed to the US animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars series. These days he's with Production I.G.
