A graduate of Tokyo Designer Gakuin, he's best known for his work as an animator at Junio and Gainax early in his career. He's maintained a notably close working relationship with Yoh Yoshinari throughout the years.

In 2004, Mitsutoshi Kubota—then president of Shaft—tapped him to join "Team Shinbo," an elite group that also included Shin Oonuma and Akiyuki Shinbo himself. The collaboration would prove formative for his later work in the industry.
