Taro Maki is an anime and live-action producer best known as the founder and president of GENCO, Inc. He's owned the company outright since June 2013 through his holding company, GC Holdings Co., Ltd.

After studying law at Waseda University, Maki started his career at Tohokushinsha Film before moving to Pioneer LDC (now NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan), where he produced several notable OVA series in the '90s—El Hazard: The Magnificent World, Magical Girl Pretty Sammy, Moldiver, and Tenchi Muyo! among them.

He founded GENCO on March 3, 1997. The company's ownership has changed hands a few times over the years. TYO, Inc. acquired it as a subsidiary in 2004, but Maki bought back full control the next year through an MBO. Then Imagica Robot Holdings took a majority stake in 2007, only for Maki to repurchase everything in 2013—again via MBO—making him sole owner once more.
