Hayashi Hiroki
Born: Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan
Hayashi Hiroki is a director, screenwriter, and creator at the animation studio AIC. He's best known for co-creating and directing Tenchi Muyo! alongside Kajishima Masaki, the project that really launched his career.
He started out as an animator on Western animation classics like ThunderCats and SilverHawks before transitioning to anime. Throughout the late 80s and early 90s, he directed various OVAs and shorts—Bubblegum Crisis OVA 4, Gall Force 2, and the Sol Bianca films, which he also created from scratch.
After Tenchi Muyo! proved successful, Hayashi stayed prolific, directing titles like El Hazard: the Magnificent World, Battle Athletes, and Black Heaven. He also helmed the full TV adaptation of Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040, expanding on work he'd done in earlier incarnations of the franchise.
By 2001, he was experimenting with new formats, working on Mahou Yuugi (Magical Witchland), an entirely 3D computer-animated series—a notable shift from the hand-drawn work that defined his earlier career.
