Glim Spanky is a Japanese rock duo from Nagano Prefecture made up of vocalist and rhythm guitarist Remi Matsuo and lead guitarist Hiroki Kamemoto. The band started out as a four-piece in 2007 but stripped down to just the two of them in February 2010.
The name itself came from Matsuo's love of Celtic culture and fantasy—she came across the word "glim" in a book about goblins and decided to add "spank" to capture what she saw as their aggressive push into the music world. Their sound is retro psychedelic and blues rock, drawing heavily from 1960s and 70s acts, especially The Beatles. You can hear echoes of The Who, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, and Cream in their work, along with more modern influences like Nirvana, Oasis, and Guns N' Roses. Joni Mitchell and the Japanese band Glay have shaped them too.
