ROOKiEZ is PUNK'D burst onto the scene in June 2010 with their debut single "Complication," which immediately hit number one on download charts and cracked the top 20 on the Oricon Weekly rankings. The track landed them the opening theme spot for the anime Durarara!!, setting the tone for what would become a pretty prolific run scoring anime soundtracks. They've since contributed multiple songs to heavy hitters like Bleach ("song for…" and "IN MY WORLD") and grabbed the second opening for Ao no Exorcist.
The Shibuya-based four-piece blends rock, punk, and emo in a way that's pulled in both rock purists and J-Pop listeners. Their sound proved popular enough that by 2011, they were collaborating with the Durarara!! creators on a dedicated album, "DRRROOKiEZ!! – ROOKiEZ is PUNK'D respect for DRRR!!," which featured "DROP" as the theme for the PSP game Durarara!! 3-way Standoff. The band's become known for their live presence—they've played over 100 shows in a single year—and have expanded into fashion collaborations with both San Diego's SRH Clothing and Shibuya's Subciety.
Signed to defSTAR records under Sony Music Japan, they've managed to maintain momentum through steady touring and a knack for landing high-profile anime placements.
