Ei Aoki got into animation through AIC, inspired after seeing their work on Megazone 23. He spent his early career there, working within the AIC Spirits division before getting his big break in 2004 when AIC president Toru Miura encouraged him to direct—and his first project was Girls Bravo. After leaving AIC in 2008 to freelance, he eventually teamed up with Toshiyuki Nagano (a former AIC Classic producer) and Tomonobu Kato (AIC's digital photographer) to co-found the studio TROYCA in May 2013.
