TM NETWORK was a Japanese pop/rock band formed in 1983 by three musicians who'd played together in a school band called Speedway. They made their official debut on April 21, 1984.
The lineup consisted of Tetsuya Komuro on keyboards, Takashi Utsunomiya as vocalist, and Naoto Kine on guitar. Komuro also handled composition, arrangement, and production duties, while both Kine and Utsunomiya contributed vocals and songwriting across the group's catalog. Kine doubled on piano and harmonica as needed.
The band's name is often assumed to mean "Time Machine Network," and Komuro himself confirmed this interpretation back in 1984 on the show LiveG. That said, a 2006 episode of Trivia no Izumi claimed the "TM" actually stood for "Tama," the Tokyo district where all three members grew up—though this version remains debated among fans.
TM NETWORK rebranded as TMN in 1990 before calling it quits in 1994. They reunited in 1999 under their original name and have remained active since.
