Yana Toboso is a BL and yaoi doujinshi mangaka working under the pen name Rock Yanao. Both "Yana" and "Toboso" are actually different readings of the same kanji—枢 (kururu)—which means "to pivot" or "turn." Her real first name is Yana, but Toboso isn't her actual surname; it's deliberately chosen wordplay.
She's been known to get pretty vocal about fans mistakenly calling her "Yana Hitsugi." The kanji for Hitsugi (柩) means "coffin" and looks deceptively similar to the one in Toboso, which she clearly finds annoying enough to bring up repeatedly.
Her creative team includes assistants Satorigi Akiyo and Hazuki Wakana, while editor Kuma Takeshi—himself a former mangaka—handles her work. She's friends with manga artist Fujiwara Cocoa.
As for what she actually looks like? Nobody knows. Toboso has never shared a real photo of herself, instead drawing herself as a cartoonish devil character: black body with horns, a round white head, and a pointed tail. Originally the devil had hair, but she later revealed she actually sports a bald spot about the size of a ¥10 coin.
