Masahiko Ootsuka started out as a photographer at Studio Ghibli before moving to Gainax, where he got his first shot at directing. He's best known for helming episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion. He studied art at Osaka University of Arts before landing those early gigs.
In 2011, he left Gainax and co-founded animation studio Trigger, which has become known for bold, energetic anime. He's active on Twitter at @tuka_trg.
