Kiriko Takemura, better known as Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, is a Japanese model, blogger, and pop recording artist born January 29, 1993. She's become the face of Japan's kawaisa and decora culture—the hyper-colorful, maximalist aesthetic centered in Tokyo's Harajuku district. Most people just call her Kyary.
The stage name came about pretty naturally. When she started blogging, "Kyary" (a phonetic take on the Western name Carrie) felt incomplete on its own—missing something. So she tacked on "Pamyu Pamyu" because it sounded cute. She's given her full stage name as Caroline Charonplop Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, though that's rarely used in practice.
