Atsushi grew up in Shimonoseki and attended an industrial high school there, though he had a rough go of it—he got suspended twice, once for smoking and once for cheating on a test. Before comedy became his thing, he was in a band. His first comedy partnership was with a classmate, and they went by Umaseki Fugutarou and Fugunosuke, a name that played on their hometown and fugu, the pufferfish dishes Shimonoseki is known for.
After moving to Tokyo, he linked up with Ryo Tamura, and that's when they became London Boots. The name came from a fictional comedy duo who'd borrowed it from some high-heeled shoes. Fans sometimes note that while "London Boots" doesn't mean much in English, it's actually a reference to the knee-high platform shoes popular with Japanese girls.
More recently, he's been doing vocals for the band jealkb.
