Before Tappei became a professional writer, he worked at a butcher shop—a detail he's joked about countless times, claiming it's basically his secret weapon for writing all those grotesquely detailed character deaths and injuries in ReZero. Whether that's true or not, fans definitely notice his work has a visceral quality to it.

He and Natsume Akatsuki, who writes Konosuba, go way back to their self-published days and have stayed close ever since. The two have shown up together for interviews and fan events pretty regularly, which has given people a peek into their friendship and how two of the biggest isekai authors of their generation actually know each other pretty well.
