March Comes In Like a Lion
3-gatsu no Lion
Rei Kiriyama turned pro at shogi while still in middle school, making him one of the world's elite players—but that success comes with a crushing amount of pressure from both the competitive shogi world and his adoptive family. To escape the tension at home, he moves into his own apartment in Tokyo as a 17-year-old. Problem is, living alone doesn't suit him. He neglects basic self-care, stays isolated from classmates and other shogi players, and generally keeps everyone at arm's length. Everything changes when he meets the Kawamoto sisters—Akari, Hinata, and Momo—who live with their grandfather above his traditional wagashi shop. Akari, the oldest, takes one look at Rei's sorry state and decides to adopt him into their chaotic family unit. The sisters have their own painful histories to work through, but somehow Rei connects with them in a way he never has with anyone else. As he battles to stay mentally and physically intact through his shogi career, Rei slowly learns what it actually means to let people in and starts making sense of his own messy emotions.
