Synopsis

Gabimaru the Hollow is a ninja on death row who's completely given up. After a lifetime of killing, he figures he deserves to die. But every execution attempt somehow fails. When Sagiri Yamada Asaemon, an inexperienced executioner, is finally tasked with killing him, she refuses—convinced that Gabimaru won't die because of his love for his wife. Instead, Sagiri offers him a deal: find the Elixir of Life on the island of Shinsekyo, bring it back to the shogun, and he gets a full pardon. Immortality is supposedly what the elixir grants, but here's the catch—everyone who's ever gone looking for it on that island has either died or come back completely broken. Nobody knows what's waiting for them there. Gabimaru takes the offer anyway. He'll be competing against ten other death row inmates, all chasing the same prize. It's a long shot, but it's his only real chance at freedom and a quiet life with his wife.
