Rozen Maiden
Jun Sakurada is a shut-in who's been traumatized by school. He spends his days ordering stuff online just to return it before the trial period ends—basically killing time. When a mysterious note shows up on his desk asking if he wants to "wind" something, he assumes it's another one of his orders and absent-mindedly checks "yes." Big mistake. A box arrives containing a wind-up doll, except she's not your average toy. After Jun winds her up, she starts moving and talking like an actual person. She's got attitude too—introduces herself as Shinku, the fifth doll in the Rozen Maiden collection. These dolls were created by a legendary dollmaker named Rozen, and they're locked in a competition called the Alice Game. Each doll fights with the help of a human partner, and the winner gets to become Alice—a real girl worthy of meeting their creator. More sentient dolls start showing up at Jun's place, and when one of Shinku's old enemies resurfaces, his life spirals into complete chaos. Nothing about his lonely existence is simple anymore.
