Synopsis

Ash gets a call from Professor Oak inviting him to the grand opening of Professor Sakurangi's lab in Vermilion City. In the middle of the ceremony, they get word of a rare Pokémon spotted in the harbor—so naturally, Ash and a bunch of other trainers rush down to check it out. What they find is Lugia, an actual Legendary Pokémon, in the middle of a battle. Ash doesn't hesitate. He has Pikachu hit Lugia with a Thunderbolt, but the Legendary just shrugs it off and takes off. That's when Ash does something crazy—he jumps right onto Lugia's back. Turns out he's not the only one with that idea. Another kid named Gou had the same impulse. The two of them end up riding Lugia across the ocean in this wild, unexpected adventure before it eventually sets them back down. When they make it back to the lab, Professor Sakuragi is impressed by what they've learned and the data they collected. He basically offers both of them jobs as his research partners on the spot. And that's how Ash and Gou's new journey kicks off—traveling to different regions, encountering tons of new Pokémon, and running into some that can Gigantamax.
