Synopsis

Mato Kuroi and Yomi Takanashi become instant friends on their first day of junior high, despite Yomi's initial wariness of Mato's blunt personality. To cement their bond, Mato gives Yomi a blue star cell phone charm that matches her own. But when they hit their second year, things fall apart. After being separated into different classes, Mato latches onto Yuu Koutari from the basketball team instead. The two former best friends drift so far that Mato seemingly vanishes without a trace. Meanwhile, in what appears to be a parallel storyline, the gunslinger Black★Rock Shooter hunts down an enemy called Dead Master. The two are locked in opposition, yet they're inexplicably connected to each other—much like Mato and Yomi's broken friendship. As these two narratives start intersecting, it becomes clear that Yomi's disappearance is tied to that blue star charm and Black★Rock Shooter herself.
