Dororo
Dororo to Hyakkimaru
A ruthless warlord named Daigo Kagemitsu makes a dark deal: he'll sacrifice his unborn son to 48 demons in exchange for help conquering Japan. The demons agree, and when the child is born, he's missing multiple limbs. Kagemitsu immediately throws him into a river. Fifteen years later, a street kid named Dororo is scraping by in a war-ravaged village, dodging hunger and corrupt samurai. When some thugs attack him, a stranger steps in—a man who claims to sense spirits nearby. A monster crawls out of the river, and the guy reveals hidden blades under his prosthetic arms, using them to take the creature down before disappearing into the night. Dororo catches up to him in the forest and basically refuses to leave. The man introduces himself as Hyakkimaru and explains that demons stole most of his body parts. He'd wanted a quiet life, but the demons keep coming after him no matter what. Dororo doesn't care about any of that—he's decided to stick around anyway. So Hyakkimaru, Dororo, and a stray dog named Nota set out across Japan together, fighting both monsters and the cruelty of humanity itself.
